USDC, issued by Circle, is regulated by US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and undergoes monthly reserve audits by Deloitte. USDC is 100% backed by reserves—approximately 20% in cash with major U.S. banks and about 80% in U.S. Treasury bills with maturities of less than 90 days. As of now, USDC has a circulating supply of over $32 billion and is supported by major global institutions such as BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, making Circle one of the most trusted stablecoin issuers in the crypto industry.
Statistical data further highlights the growing significance of stablecoins in the global financial system. As of May 2025, the total market capitalization of stablecoins reached an all-time high of $231 billion, representing a 43.5% increase from $161 billion in the same period last year (Sources: CoinDesk and CoinGecko). The number of active crypto wallets also rose from 19.6 million in February 2024 to 30 million in February 2025—a 53% growth (Source: Cointelegraph). Notably, in 2024 alone, total stablecoin transaction volume reached $27.6 trillion, surpassing the combined transaction volume of Visa and Mastercard by 7.68% (Source: Bastion).
